IS2H4C is among eight large-scale Horizon Europe projects featured in European Research with Impact, a new brochure highlighting how European research and cooperation support industrial transformation.
Announced on 11 September 2026 by Germany’s National Contact Point for Digital and Industrial Technologies (NKS DIT), the publication brings together projects addressing challenges ranging from climate-neutral process heat and sustainable chemicals to CO₂ utilisation and industrial symbiosis.
Published by DLR Projektträger and Projektträger Jülich, the brochure explores how technological development, demonstrations in operating industrial facilities and European partnerships can work together to support a more sustainable and competitive industry.
From industrial symbiosis to regional circularity
The IS2H4C feature focuses on a central question for our project: how can individual industrial sites become interconnected Hubs for Circularity?
It examines our approach across four demonstration hubs in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Türkiye, highlighting the importance of connecting energy, materials, water and waste streams across company boundaries. Alongside the technical work, it explores the cooperation, governance and business models needed to make these connections viable.
Two examples receive particular attention: the DigitalH4C collaboration platform, which helps identify opportunities to share resources and infrastructure, and CO₂ capture investigations at Industriepark Höchst, where testing under industrial operating conditions provides evidence for future applications.
The feature also looks beyond the demonstration sites. By comparing experiences across different industrial and regional settings, IS2H4C aims to develop approaches that other regions can adapt to their own circumstances.
